I really loved Kyoto. It doesn't quite have Tokyo's unbeatable transit system (provided you avoid it during rush hour and immediately after typhoons), but it has way more charm for someone like me, who, as it turns out, loves old buildings and pretty views. Its transit system was also quite decent, it was really easy to get from every Point A to Point B.
Nijo-jo was about a two minute walk from my hotel, so I started there bright and early. Spent about three hours there, or something like that? Then I went to Kinkaku-ji, the famous golden pavilion, in the afternoon. Some middle school girls had what looked like a school assignment to ask people various questions in English, and they were adorable. I think it's a smart assignment, because it not only teaches basic English conversational skills, but it also teaches that it's not actually that scary talking to foreigners - everyone I saw them talking to was quite happy to help.
Anyways here are the pictures! The skies were so cooperative, with all these dramatic cloud formations above this brilliant blue.
